What is the treatment?

The misconception regarding this treatment is widespread on social media and the internet, most of the time being referred to as the Skinny Jab or Skinny pen, with many people desperate to be skinny/thin or wanting a quick fix. However, this couldn’t be further than the reality. The treatment offered at AB Clinical is with prescription only medication licenced for Obesity called Wegovy, this is the trade name for the medication Semaglutide, which is Glucagon Like Peptide produced by Novo Nordisk. The treatment is an injection once per week, each pen lasting four to six weeks depending on dose.

How does it work.

• Stimulating the release of insulin by the pancreas after eating, even before blood sugars start to rise.

• Inhibiting the release of glucagon by the pancreas. Glucagon is a hormone that causes the liver to release its stored sugar into the bloodstream.

• Slowing glucose absorption into the bloodstream by reducing the speed at which the stomach empties after eating, thus making you feel more satisfied after a meal.

• Help your body to make more insulin (the hormone that controls the amount of sugar in your blood) when needed.

• Reduce the amount of sugar (glucose) that your liver makes.

• Slow down the digestion of food, so that it takes longer for your body to absorb (take in) the sugar from meals.

• Can reduce your appetite.

So how does all this help with weight loss? The medication reduces appetite and increase satiety after meals, reduce snacking, helping patients to regulate their nutritional input to create better choices
