Introducing… SkinPen Microneedling
At AB Clinical, our commitment to our patients throughout Warrington, Chester and the wider community of Cheshire is that we’ll always look to offer the best quality version of a treatment possible. So we’re really excited to have given our Microneedling service an upgrade this month!
Introducing SkinPen! This is the only FDA approved medical Microneedling device available, and can be used to combat a variety of ageing concerns, as well as scarring (including caesarean scars) and Melasma. But before we really get into the benefits of SkinPen, let’s have a quick recap on Microneedling itself, the concept and the standard benefits.
Microneedling, or collagen induction therapy, has surged in popularity for a good reason. It’s a minimally invasive procedure that stimulates your skin's natural healing process, prompting it to produce collagen and elastin. These vital proteins are the building blocks of firm, smooth skin and, as we age, their production naturally declines. This leads to fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, and uneven skin texture — concerns we all face, regardless of age. If you are someone who is juggling work, family, and social commitments, leaving little time for lengthy, complicated skincare routines, then Microneedling offers a practical solution. Its short treatment time with significant, lasting results is ideal for those wanting to address specific skin concerns without resorting to more invasive procedures.
So what makes SkinPen different from other Microneedling devices, and why have we moved to it? It's a valid question, which we’ll answer below.
Precision: SkinPen is the first FDA-cleared Microneedling device. This means it has undergone rigorous testing and meets the highest safety standards. Its precise, adjustable needle depth ensures consistent results, minimising the risk of skin damage. Unlike some other devices, SkinPen allows for a much more controlled treatment.
Downtime: In our fast-paced lives, downtime is something we’re asked about a lot. SkinPen treatments are designed to minimise redness and swelling, allowing you to return to your daily activities relatively quickly. You might experience some mild redness for a day or two, kind of like a mild sunburn, but it's generally manageable.
Safety: SkinPen's single-use, sterile needle cartridges eliminate the risk of cross-contamination, ensuring a hygienic and safe treatment experience. This is crucial for maintaining the integrity of your skin and preventing any unwanted side effects.
Consistency: The device's vertical needle technology creates micro-injuries at a 90-degree angle, promoting even collagen stimulation. This results in smoother, more uniform skin texture and a noticeable reduction in scars and wrinkles.
Suitable for All Skin Types: SkinPen is versatile and can be used on various skin tones and types, making it an inclusive option — something we feel is important to properly serve people throughout Warrington, Chester & wider Cheshire. Whether you have fair, olive, or dark skin, SkinPen can be tailored to meet your specific needs
SkinPen microneedling is ideal for anyone looking to improve their skin’s overall appearance and address specific concerns. This includes:
Those with Acne Scars: SkinPen can significantly reduce the appearance of acne scars, helping to smooth out pitted or raised areas.
Those with Fine Lines and Wrinkles: By stimulating collagen and elastin production, SkinPen can diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, giving you a more youthful complexion.
Those with Uneven Skin Texture and Tone: SkinPen can improve skin texture and even out skin tone, reducing the appearance of pigmentation, sun damage and conditions like Melasma
Those with Large Pores: SkinPen can help minimise the appearance of large pores, creating a smoother, more refined skin surface.
Those with Surgical Scarring: In some cases, SkinPen can help break down hardened and lumpy scar tissue, leading to a smoother, more even texture. This also includes Caesarean Scarring, however it's not suitable for raised scars. This is because it stimulates collagen production and raised scars are formed, essentially, by an overgrowth of collagen.
FAQ
How long will the treatment take?
For single treatments, appointments shouldn’t take any longer than an hour from start to finish. For appointments for multiple areas, this will take slightly longer.
Does it hurt?
We apply a numbing cream before treatment starts and most patients describe the sensation as light pressure or a mild buzzing. It’s a very tolerable treatment.
Will I need more than one treatment?
The answer is probably, but this varies from patient to patient. To achieve the best results, a series of multiple treatments spaced approximately four weeks apart is recommended. At your appointment, we can then discuss any maintenance treatments you may need in the future.
