At AB Clinical, we offer medical weight management at both our Warrington and Chester clinics.

When it comes to weight management and obesity, we know firsthand how difficult it can be, so we always strive to ensure that we can support and guide you on your journey. From your initial consultation to regular check-ins throughout your treatment, we will always be on hand to make sure that you are achieving your weight loss goals in a safe, sustainable manner.

  • To qualify for medical weight management treatment, there are specific criteria that need to be met:

    Qualifying Criteria:

    • BMI greater than 27 with certain comorbidities (either personally or in a direct family member)

    • BMI of 30 or greater

    Patients Who Would Not Qualify:

    • History of cholecystitis (gallstones)

    • History of pancreatitis

    • Taking antiglycemic medications such as Gliclazide or Insulin for type 2 diabetes mellitus

    • History or family history of thyroid cancer, chronic gastritis, gastroparesis, or cyclical vomiting syndrome (CVS)

    • Poor kidney function with an EGFR lower than 50 (for Wegovy only)

    • Diagnosed eating disorders or body dysmorphic disorder (BDD)

  • The medication prescribed to you will aid your weight loss journey in a number of ways, including ways such as those listed below:

    • Stimulating the release of insulin by the pancreas after eating, even before blood sugars start to rise.

    • Inhibiting the release of glucagon by the pancreas. Glucagon is a hormone that causes the liver to release its stored sugar into the bloodstream.

    • Slowing glucose absorption into the bloodstream by reducing the speed at which the stomach empties after eating, thus making you feel more satisfied after a meal.

    • Help your body to make more insulin (the hormone that controls the amount of sugar in your blood) when needed.

    • Reduce the amount of sugar (glucose) that your liver makes

    • Slow down the digestion of food, so that it takes longer for your body to absorb (take in) the sugar from meals.

    • Can reduce your appetite

Combined with diet changes and exercise you will experience a much greater weight loss effect than using the medications on their own. The medications allows you to create a calorie deficit which is the true key, with good nutrition, to weight loss.

  • As with all medication, there can sometimes be side effects. These will be discussed with you during your consultation and we offer a variety of medical weight management treatments in both Warrington and Chester to ensure that we always put you on the treatment plan that’s best for you and your weight loss journey.

    Some common side effects are:

    • Diarrhoea

    • Nausea

    • Vomiting

    • Headaches

    • Dizziness

    • Increased sweating
