Lip Filler: When Should I Get It?

When it comes to aesthetics, the treatment everyone thinks of besides 'Tox is lip fillers, so it’s no surprise it’s one of the most discussed topics. One of the most common phrases we hear when our patients sit in our chair for their consultation is, "I want my lips done, but I don’t want to look like a duck!"

So, when is the time to get your lips done?

  1. You feel like you’ve lost definition as you age.

As we age, we naturally lose definition in our lips due to multiple causes such as reduced collagen and elastin production, reduction in bone density, and skin naturally becoming more dehydrated. Therefore, dermal fillers can be placed into the peri-oral area to reduce the appearance of those pesky fine lines and also into the lips themselves to rehydrate and restore the volume that has been lost.

  2. Your lips aren’t symmetrical.

No one’s lips (or faces, for that matter) are symmetrical. However, a lot of our patients come for lip fillers because they don’t like the appearance of asymmetry in their lips. Filler can be used to reduce this asymmetry and improve the patient's self-esteem.

  3. You just fancy a bit of a plump!

Sometimes, all you want is a bit of a plump, and that’s absolutely fine! Filler can be used at any age (strictly over the age of 18) to provide more volume and give that extra boost of confidence to your pout 💋

When shouldn’t I get lip fillers?

  1. You’re under the age of 18.

Sorry, but it’s against the law to inject anyone under the age of 18, and if in doubt, we will check your age!

  2. You have migration of your previous lip filler.

If you have migration of your previous lip fillers, then placing more filler into the lips isn’t the answer! Instead, I will suggest dissolving the filler and then refilling the lips after a period of recovery—normally around 2 weeks. This allows the tissues in the lips to recover, ensuring the best results.

  3. You’ve got lumps and bumps.

Otherwise known as nodules, granulomas, or simply large boluses of filler, if you have these, the best option is to dissolve the filler and treat the cause of the lumps before placing any more filler.

Here at AB Clinical, we use premium, medical-grade products such as Juvederm Ultra Smile and Juvederm Volbella (other products are available following consultation and we will also advise the best product for you)

During October, we have a special offer on lip fillers—£145 instead of £185, plus a FREE CellDerma Perfect Lips Balm worth £30.
